Additional
Background Information
It
would be fair to say that technology has made communication
around the globe easier and faster. As a consequence, our communication
skills should be improving. Not so. The problem with things
like the information super highway is that they throw information
at you rather than communicate with you. In days gone by, when
people were well versed in the art of communication using word
of mouth skills in this area were very high. In addition, the
pace of life was slower and there were less distractions and
preoccupation. These days the average person is likely be bombarded
by thousands of visual and sound images vying for their attention.
As one advert selling cars tells us, the average person will
have around 12,750 thoughts in a single day, so get your message
across in the midst of all of that!
Communication,
by that I mean the transfer of meaning between two or more people,
has become more difficult over the years. We need to be reminded
of what it is to actively listen and to get past the phonetic
level of language and successfully transmit or receive meaning.
This workshop is designed for those who want to improve their
communication skills, in particular their listening skills.
